How do dermal fillers work?
All products are based on a hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into the skin in order to lift up wrinkles or add volume to the lips.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells. It helps maintain skin volume by attracting and binding over 1,000 times its weight in water. In fact, it can even stimulate collagen production. Think of hyaluronic acid as our skin’s own natural and internal moisturizer.
However, aging, diseases, and other stresses weaken the amount and quality of hyaluronic acid. Injectable hyaluronic acid is a modified form of the hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in your body. Injection of new hyaluronic acid into the skin replaces the body’s lost hyaluronic acid and creates the volume needed to smooth away facial lines, acne scars, or other skin contour deficiencies for up to 12 months.
What areas can be treated?
Common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (lines from the wing of the nose to the angle of the mouth), oral commissures (lines that go down from the corners of the mouth), perioral lines (the vertical lines above the lip), and the wrinkles around the lips and around the eyes.
What is the treatment like?

Is it painful?
This is very individual and depends on how sensitive to pain you are. The injections may prick a little but normally no anesthesia is needed for the treatment. Lip treatment can be quite uncomfortable and therefore a freezing such as Lidocaine (dental freezing) may be injected prior to the treatment.

How long does the effect last?
Since dermal fillers contain the same substances as your skin, they also undergo the same breakdown process (such as aging), eventually disappearing from the body. The effect of the treatment depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and age. Most patients have touch-up treatments done within 6-12 months of the original treatment. If you choose not to do touch-up treatments, the correction will gradually disappear until your skin is back to its original state.
